Work Continues for Nova Scotia to Host 2011 Canada Games - Four
groups are continuing to prepare to bid to host the 2011 Canada Winter
Games in Nova Scotia.
The bid groups in the Highland region, central Nova Scotia, the Annapolis
Valley and Halifax anticipated that the formal bid process for identifying
a host community would begin this fall, with the host announced in the
spring of 2006. Those timelines have changed and were communicated to the
bid committees on Nov. 15.
The reason for the delay is that federal/provincial/territorial ministers
responsible for physical activity, sport and recreation must review and
approve a new financial framework that outlines operating and capital
costs contributed by governments. The new framework is expected to be
approved at their annual meeting in June 2006...

Christmas Tree Ready for Boston - It's a 34-year-old tradition
rooted in Nova Scotia's appreciation to its neighbours. Each Christmas
since 1971, Nova Scotia has presented a giant evergreen tree to the people
of Boston in appreciation for the emergency assistance they provided to
our region following the Halifax Explosion in 1917.
This year, the tree is a 14.6-metre (48-foot) white spruce provided by
Donald and Annette Hatt of Beech Hill, Lunenburg Co.
At an event that will be attended by about 100 children from Gold River
Elementary and Chester Middle schools, the tree is being felled today,

Minister Cecil Clarke. "We're partnering with these municipalities to help
demonstrate the energy efficiency, the cost savings, and the practicality
of LEDs to Nova Scotians."
Under the agreement, the Department of Energy is investing $21,500 to pay
half the conversion costs for energy efficient, LED holiday lights in each
of the 18 municipalities. Mr. Clarke said that, although the lights are
