Road Weight Restrictions Lifted Temporarily in Six More Counties -
Spring weight restrictions are being temporarily removed from roads in six
more Nova Scotia counties.
Effective immediately, the Department of Transportation and Public Works
is temporarily lifting spring weight restrictions on all roads in Halifax,
Hants, Annapolis, Queens, Kings, and Lunenburg counties.
Restrictions have already been lifted for Cumberland, Colchester, Pictou,
Guysborough, Antigonish, Richmond, Inverness, Cape Breton, and Victoria...

Highway 104 Twinning Enters Next Phase in Pictou County - Work to
twin Highway 104 will continue during the winter months as a result of a
tender announcement by the Department of Transportation and Public Works.
The tender is for the clearing of a section of right-of-way for the new
lanes of Highway 104. The clearing will occur from the end of the existing
twinned highway at New Glasgow for about 9.4 kilometres east to Exit 27A
at Sutherlands River.
The tender closes on Thursday, Feb. 9 and the work is scheduled for
completion by the end of March...

Province Wishes Good Luck to Olympic Athlete - Nova Scotia's only
Olympic athlete, Sarah Conrad of Dartmouth, was given a send-off at her
former high school today, Jan. 31, the day before she heads off to the
Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, Feb. 10 to 26 to compete in snowboarding.
Health Minister Angus MacIsaac, on behalf of Health Promotion Minister
Rodney MacDonald, recognized Sarah's achievement and wished her luck at
Prince Andrew High School. Sarah, while attending high school,
participated on the snowboarding team where she was coached by her mother
Ginny.
"Sarah is an excellent example of how hard work, dedication and a strong
support system can make dreams come true," said Mr. MacIsaac. "The entire
province is proud of Sarah and we wish her all the best as she represents
our country at the Olympic Winter Games."...

Restrictions Lifted Temporarily in Some Counties - Roads in the
northern and eastern areas of Nova Scotia will see the temporary removal
of spring weight restrictions.
Effective immediately, the Department of Transportation and Public Works
is temporarily lifting spring weight restrictions on all roads in the
following counties: Cumberland, Colchester, Pictou, Guysborough,
Antigonish, Richmond, Inverness, Cape Breton and Victoria. The
restrictions will be lifted until 6:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4...

international program to enjoy the winter weather, learn outdoor skills
and try new activities.
The winter session of Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) will introduce
women to some of the fun and unique activities that come with this time of
year. Some of the classes offered include cross-country skiing,
snowshoeing, identifying and cooking wild edibles in winter and preparing
for emergencies...

Provincial Conference Targets 4-H Youth and Agricultural Leaders -
Community agricultural leaders and 4-H members from across the province
will look at ways to develop leadership, life and business skills at a
conference hosted by the 4-H and the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture
and Fisheries Feb. 4-5, at the Agri-Tech Park in Bible Hill.
"For decades the 4-H organization and department have been teaching life
skills to rural community leaders," said Chris d'Entremont, Minister of
Agriculture and Fisheries. "The positive response to these conferences
indicate the delegates' eagerness to learn more about both agriculture and

Spring Weight Restrictions Begin Jan. 23 - Spring weight
restrictions for heavy trucks will come into effect at 12:01 a.m. on
Monday, Jan. 23, in all Nova Scotia counties.
"Although colder temperatures are forecast for early next week, there
doesn't appear to be a long enough cold trend for frost to strengthen our
roads," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works.
Mr. Russell noted that mild conditions are forecast to return later next

Seniors' Home Energy Assistance Program Applications Available -
Low- and modest-income seniors in Nova Scotia can now apply for funding to
help make their homes more energy efficient.
The Department of Energy is offering grants and rebates to qualified
seniors who participate in the EnerGuide for Houses program, administered
by Natural Resources Canada. The funding will allow seniors to make
improvements to their homes to help them save energy and money.
"Nova Scotians own some of the oldest houses in the country, and many of
these homes were built before efficient energy use was a concern," said
Energy Minster Cecil Clarke. "Encouraging more Nova Scotians to make
energy upgrades will help us reduce both power generation and harmful
greenhouse gas emissions."...
