HELL'S GATE - THREE POOLS

Uses: Hiking

Time: 1 hr

Length: 3 km (return)

Difficulty: 4  (tough climbs near end of trail to get to highest water falls)

Location: 5 km east of Agricultural Center in Kentville, take turnoff from Hwy 1 towards White Rock.  Proceed along rough paved road for 3.2 km to intersection in downtown White Rock.  Continue straight through intersection for another .5 km and cross small bridge.  Parking area is just on other side of bridge.

Description: Follow trail short distance and cross metal bridge across second river, then proceed up to power generating station (Hell's Gate).  Cross bridge by power plant and follow path leading away from the plant and along the edge of the river.  Trail becomes very difficult as you near the pools.  There are rocky cliffs and slippery rocks, especially when wet.  There is a waterfall above each pool but good footwear required to get to the see all three.

Notes: Bring a fishing rod.  Good fishing where two rivers converge.  Nice area to go paddling as well.
