CHEBOGUE MEADOWS INTERPRETIVE TRAILUses: Hiking, X-Country Skiing, Mountain Biking (some rough spots) Time: 1.5 hrs to cover all parts of the trail. Length: 4.5 km loop + almost 1 km (return) to one of the lookout posts. Difficulty: 2 Location: Near Yarmouth - take exit 34 off Hwy 101 at Hebron. Turn right at the end of the off ramp and then go less than 100 m and turn right onto Tinkham Road. Follow this road just over 2 km and turn left. Proceed about 300 m along this road and the parking lot can be seen on the right just under the power lines. Description: A series of boardwalks, gravel, and natural paths lead through a variety of different areas. Interpretive stations show how forest practices have effected the ecology of the woods and how the boundaries of meadows and forests effect wildlife. After following the trail a few hundred meters into the woods, the trail branches off into two directions. The left branch is the intended route and will loop back to this point. After passing station 11 look for a side trail to the left (just before the bridge crossing over the stream in the meadow). This leads to an observation tower overlooking the Chebogue Meadow and is managed by Ducks Unlimited. Another tower is located just past the bridge also. The trail is clearly marked (including the side trail to the observation tower) by red tags on the trees. Yellow tags mark the trail when returning over areas already covered. Notes: bring fly dope and binoculars (good place for bird watching). Rating: 2 Disclaimer: Sea Scotia Vacation Rentals in no way endorses the use of this trail. Please do so at you own risk. Be aware that in some places you may be crossing private property and you are required to obtain permission from the registered owner before doing so.
