BUTCHER FALLSUses: Hiking Time: 10 minutes Length: 200 meters Difficulty: 3 (trail is partly steep to base of falls) Location: South Branch (Colchester County). Take Route 289 from Brookfield or New Glasgow to Upper Stewiacke. Turn at the intersection in Upper Stewiacke and cross the river. Go another 300 meters and turn right onto Meadowvale Road. Follow this paved road for 2.6 km and then turn left onto Higgins Mill Road. Proceed along this dirt road for about 1.5 km, where you will cross a double bridge (one is wood and one is iron). Just past these bridges is an old farmhouse on the right. About another 300 meters up this road is another farmhouse on the left. The trail is about half way between these two houses on the right side of the road. It may be found between two MTT sign posts (about 3 m apart). This may be hard to find, but you could scramble down over the bank just about anywhere and follow along the river until you get to the falls. Description: The falls are divided into three sections, with the upstream falls being the highest. The middle section is the smallest. There are nice pools for sitting in at the base of each section of the falls. Notes: Considerate to ask permission from Butcher Family farm before visiting falls. Rating: 4 Disclaimer: Sea Scotia Vacation Rentals in no way endorses the use of this trail. Please do so at you own risk. Be aware that in some places you may be crossing private property and you are required to obtain permission from the registered owner before doing so. To determine the registered owner of the land contact the Nova Scotia Registry of Deeds office.
